Last month, I put my vulva through the wringer.

For InsideHook’s first annual Sex Week, I dedicated nearly a month of my life to trying every single sexual wellness product I’ve been gifted over the past three years. It amounted to about twenty-six sex toys. From vibrators to arousal oils, I gave my honest thoughts on each product and discovered a few new favorites. (You can read all about that here.)

Shortly after that list was published, modern sexual wellness brand Maude released “Spot,” its first-ever internal vibrator — a vibrator that would’ve earned a spot at the top of my list had it arrived a few weeks earlier.

Admittedly, Spot doesn’t appear to be anything interesting. It’s a simple, relatively inconspicuous curved device made of 100% platinum-grade silicone. But that’s exactly the vibe (ha) Maude’s going for.

If you’re unfamiliar with the DTC sexual wellness brand, Maude was launched in 2018 by Éva Goicochea, a former healthcare legislative aide and brand strategist. One of the first brands to put intimacy and inclusivity at the forefront of selling sex products, Maude’s catalog is filled with neutral-colored, genderless and reasonably priced devices, lubricants, condoms and bath/body essentials. Essentially, you can display every one of Maude’s sexual wellness items and your party guests would probably be none the wiser.

Navigating the increasingly diverse, competitive and tech-forward world of self-stimulation

And that’s a big pro of the brand’s latest vibrator. Spot is one of five design-forward sex toys from Maude, and the brand’s third vibratior, succeeding Vibe and Drop — two external personal massagers. The brand also offers two soft-touch silicone butt plugs. Available in sizes small and medium (new), Cone makes anal stimulation approachable.

Naturally, Spot is also a sleekly designed, no-frills device, one that’s intended for internal stimulation of the g-spot and prostate. It’s available in three pleasing neutrals — grey, green and charcoal — and feels quite luxurious in hand, which is due to Maude’s signature soft platinum-grade silicone that’s impeccably smooth (and non-irritating). I was also delighted to find a natural canvas travel pouch with the vibrator, a convenient, good-looking storage piece for the device.

However, I was a bit caught off guard by the size of Spot, which measures 1.85 x 8.31 inches. It’s not terrifically large, but my personal preference of vibrators tend to skew on the smaller, more portable side (like the Crave Wink). Plus a sizeable device can be a tad intimidating, especially for beginners.

But Spot’s size is ideal for hitting the g-spot and p-spot (that’d be the prostate), along with its curved design that’s expertly angled to hit, well, the perfect spot. And while it’s intended for internal use, Spot also provides effective external stimulation for people with vulvas because it’s an impressively powerful vibe. Spot boasts five speeds, but honestly, I haven’t been able to go past two on this thing. Of the vibrators I’ve tested, Spot is for sure one of the most forceful.

Other things to note about Spot:

My only caveat with the Maude Spot is that it isn’t as quiet as other equally powerful vibratiors I’ve tried — but its sound level isn’t a dealbreaker. The device’s force, luxuriously smooth feel and, of course, its dashing good looks make it a no-brainer addition to your (or your partner’s) sexual wellness drawer. And priced at $79, it’s surprisingly affordable compared to other internal vibratiors on the market.
